David Cameron has announced a £390m contract to service armoured fighting vehicles in Merthyr Tydfil, bringing 250 highly-skilled jobs to the town. A £3.5bn deal to buy 589 of the Scout Specialist Vehicles at General Dynamics (GD) at Oakdale in south Wales' Sirhowy Valley was announced on the eve of the 2014 Nato summit in Newport. A former fork lift site will be taken over by General Dynamics for the work.
GD will service and assemble at a regenerated former fork lift plant. It follows a £3.5bn deal to buy 589 of the Scout Specialist Vehicles at General Dynamics at Oakdale in Caerphilly county.
