Summit over 900 at-risk jobs at Fraserburgh fish plant Young's Seafoods to keep Fraserburgh plant open
(about 9 hours later)
A meeting is due to be held to explore ways of protecting 900 at-risk jobs at a Fraserburgh fish plant. Young's Seafoods no longer plans to shut its processing plant in Fraserburgh, but still expects to shed up to 650 jobs.
Young's Seafoods announced earlier this month it intends to close the plant - and one in Grantown on Spey - after losing a major contract. The company's new preferred option for the Aberdeenshire factory has emerged following a meeting with Scottish ministers and Scottish Enterprise.
The jobs were put under threat following Sainsbury's decision to seek an alternative supplier for processing and packaging salmon. Keeping the plant open would save up to 250 posts.
Young's has also said that it would seek a third party operator for its smokehouse in Grantown on Spey.
The Highlands business employs 24 staff.

If the current closure proposals go ahead, it would mean the loss of 900 jobs in Fraserburgh and 24 in Grantown on Spey.
