A motorist was finally stopped by police after driving on a provisional licence for more than 40 years.

Motorway police stopped the driver at junction five of the M5 at Bromsgrove in Worcestershire on Thursday.

The motorist had two grandchildren, his daughter and wife in the vehicle, which was seized by police.

The Central Motorway Police Group officer involved tweeted that the man had been driving longer than the officer had been alive.
