Well done Panama. That was a deserved victory, although it should never have gone to penalties. They should have won about 11-1 at the end of 120 minutes, but some good goalkeeping from Brad Guzan and some lamentable finishing from the Panamanians kept it level. Hello and welcome
Hi! USA play Panama today in Philly today – and, if we’re being, honest, no one wants to be here. A third place playoff game is akin to the wedding of an irritating older cousin: something you’re forced to endure rather than enjoy, to attend out of obligation rather than desire. If I were the USA or Panama, I’d be pissed: I’d either want to be in Sunday’s final, or just leave on my holidays, flush with feelings of disappointment, in USA’s case, and disgust, in Panama’s.
But such is life, and play this game we must, so we’ll be liveblogging with professionalism and gusto, as if it this game actually meant something. Kick off’s at 4pm: join us!

It was his career, not someone else’s.
In many ways, that’s the legacy of the greatest American soccer player of all time. Maybe he could have done more with his talent. Maybe he got the most out of it. Judge away.
He just wanted to be happy.
The end result is pretty impressive. On the club level, he won six MLS Cups, two with the San Jose Earthquakes and four with the Galaxy. He retired after the 2015 season as the league’s all-time leading goal scorer with 144 goals.
