Alleged Isis nurse Adam Brookman remanded in custody on terror charges
Version 0 of 1. The Melbourne nurse accused of helping Islamic State in Syria has been remanded in custody until November. Adam Brookman, 39, of Coolaroo, faced the Melbourne magistrates court on Monday where his lawyer indicated he would not be making a bail application over charges laid after he was extradited from Sydney to Melbourne at the weekend. Brookman was charged with one count of knowingly providing support to a terrorist organisation and one count of performing services with the intention of supporting a person to engage in a hostile activity in a foreign state. The charges relate to guard and reconnaissance duties Brookman allegedly carried out between April 2010 and August 2014, according to court documents. Brookman did not apply for bail, and magistrate Jelena Popovic remanded him in custody until 16 November. Brookman’s lawyer, Rob Stary, said outside court the Australian federal police did not think Brookman posed a risk to anyone in Australia. “The federal police have taken the view that Mr Brookman presents as no risk to any person in Australia, and the safety of Australian citizens of course was their primary concern in helping to facilitate Mr Brookman’s repatriation,” Stary said. |
