Police launch murder investigation after woman is found dead at London hostel Man arrested on suspicion of murdering woman at west London hostel
(about 2 hours later)
Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead at a hostel for vulnerable people in west London. A resident at a hostel for vulnerable people in west London has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman, believed to be member of staff, police said.
Officers are searching for Michael Meanza, 47, who has not been seen since the body of the woman, who was in her 30s, was discovered at the hostel in Acton on Monday morning. She is believed to have been a member of staff. Michael Meanza, 47, who has schizophrenia, was arrested by officers in Ealing on Monday afternoon after Scotland Yard issued an appeal to find him.
Meanza, who was previously know as Michael Condon, is understood to have lived in the hostel and has schizophrenia. He is on regular medication but is not believed to be carrying any with him. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered injured at the hostel in Acton shortly after 6.30am. It is thought she worked at the hostel, which is understood to be a supported living service for vulnerable people.
Police have advised members of the public not to approach him but to call 999. London Ambulance Service attended the incident and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
He left the hostel, which offers supported living accommodation for vulnerable adults, at about 6.30am on Monday, shortly before police arrived and found the victim’s body. Scotland Yard said: “Michael Meanza was arrested on Monday 27 July in the Ealing area. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time.”
Next of kin have been informed of her death but a formal identification is yet to take place. A post-mortem examination will follow.
Meanza is described as white and of large build. He was wearing light grey or beige trousers, a dark blue hooded top, white trainers and a black or blue cap when he was last seen. He may be carrying a portable radio.
DCI Andy Partridge said: “We are in the very early stages of this murder investigation, but I am keen to speak to Michael Meanza in connection with the incident.
“I would urge anyone who sees him to contact police immediately and not approach him.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone else who may have information about his whereabouts to contact police. I would like to reassure them that they will be treated with the utmost sensitivity.”
