Police are investigating a possible link between the discovery of a woman's body in a house and the death of a man in a crash in the Republic of Ireland. The man died when his car collided with two other vehicles on the M1. When police called to the registered address of the car, the woman's body was found. Irish broadcaster, RTÉ, said the dead man was believed to have driven the wrong way on the M1 in County Louth. The woman was found with head injuries in the house near Hackballscross. Her body was discovered in an upstairs bedroom. She was in her 60s. The dead man, who was in his 70s, was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the carriageway when he crashed near Ardee at about 14:00 local time. His car was in collision with another car and a truck. Three people were taken to hospital. The police investigation is continuing and the motorway is expected to remain closed for some time. 'Tragic circumstances' Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams, who represents the Louth constituency expressed his condolences. "I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the families and friends of two people killed in tragic circumstances in separate incidents near Hackballscross and on the M1 near Ardee today," Mr Adams said. "My thoughts are with all those affected at this sad time." |
