High temperatures are expected on Tuesday as crews struggle to make headway against a wildfire threatening about 450 homes and other buildings in the tiny wooded communities of Bass Lake and Cascadel Woods north of Fresno, California.

The fire is just 5% contained as crews work in steep and rugged terrain on the ground and helicopters and air tankers help from above.

Residents remain under orders to be prepared to evacuate because of the fire, which has charred nearly two and a half square miles.

Meanwhile, a grass fire north of Sacramento burned more than 430 acres in a few hours before it was contained on Monday evening. That fire was deemed arson and an arrest was made.

A fire about an hour east of the Napa Valley wine country has burned more than 10 square miles. It was more than three-quarters contained on Tuesday.
