Protesters smashed a glass door panel in an attempt to storm a building where federal education minister Christopher Pyne was launching his book on Friday.

About 100 National Union of Students protesters were gathering outside a building in Melbourne’s Docklands where they smashed the panel in a revolving door while trying to get into an area blocked by police.

Shouting “No cuts, no fees, no corporate universites”, the protesters jostled those entering the NAB-owned building. The protesters dispersed about 5.15pm but the book launch was delayed.

Pyne’s book, A Letter to My Children, was launched by Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger as the prime minister, Tony Abbott, had to pull out.

Abbott was in Perth on Friday for the funeral of Liberal MP Don Randall.
