A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed multiple times in Salford. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was beaten and stabbed multiple times in Salford.
Greater Manchester police said officers were called to Clifton at about 1am on Tuesday. They found a 38-year-old man had been beaten and stabbed after being attacked by a group. The 38-year-old is fighting for his life in hospital following the attack at 1am on Tuesday.
He was taken to hospital with stab wounds, a broken arm and a head injury, and remains in intensive care. The boy is in police custody for questioning. Detectives immediately sought to reassure residents that it was being treated as an isolated incident unconnected to the murder of Salford’s so-called “Mr Big”, Paul Massey, last week.
Police said they do not believe the incident is linked to the killing last month of Paul Massey, 55, who was shot in the chest by a lone gunman in “military-style” clothing. The father of five, nicknamed Mr Big, was a well-known figure among Salford’s criminal fraternity, but more recently attempted to mediate between warring gangs. Massey, who is believed to have been mediating between rival gangs, was shot dead outside his home in Clifton, a 30-minute walk from where the man was attacked on Tuesday.
DCI Clare Devlin from GMP’s Salford division said: “I am very aware that our communities in Salford are understandably extremely anxious at the moment, as they hear of numerous serious incidents that have happened in the area over the past few weeks.
“I want to try to update people as much as I can to try and allay any rumours that may be circulating. This is an isolated set of circumstances surrounding this attack and it is not being linked to the murder last week or any other incidents.

“However, this does not detract from the fact we have a man lying seriously ill in hospital after he was stabbed and clearly we are treating this incident with the utmost importance. Our investigation is fast-moving and has resulted in one person being arrested so far and with enquiries continuing to identify a number of other people we believe may be involved.” DCI Clare Devlin from Greater Manchester police’s Salford division said: “I am very aware that our communities in Salford are understandably extremely anxious at the moment, as they hear of numerous serious incidents that have happened in the area over the past few weeks.

The boy remains in police custody after being arrested early on Tuesday morning.
