Porn is worse than Hitler, nuclear holocaust, Aids and cancer, according to a lawyer who has campaigned to get India to ban sexually explicit websites in the wake of the New Delhi bus gang rape.

Kamlesh Vaswani, 43, a private lawyer from Madhya Pradesh state in India, launched a drive to get the Indian government to ban the most popular porn websites following the death of 23-year-old student Jyoti Singh in 2012, according to the New York Times.

His appeal to the Supreme Court to have the websites blocked was rejected, with the court ruling that Indians had a fundamental right to watch porn in the privacy of their homes.

But, just weeks later, the Indian Government announced, this weekend, that access to more than 850 pornographic websites was being denied to citizens.

The ban on the websites has since been reversed.

After the Supreme Court rejected his appeal, Mr Vaswani gave his list of websites to a lawyer now working for Narendra Modi’s government, according to the newspaper.

Following the Government’s porn sites ban, Mr Vaswani said: “Under Prime Minster Modi’s good governance and the good faith with which this government has been working they have been instrumental in blocking the 857 websites that I have been looking to get blocked,” as reported by the New York Times.

Kamlesh Vaswani has claimed porn is more damaging that the policies of Adolf Hitler In his petition to the Supreme Court he had said: “Nothing can more efficiently destroy a person, fizzle their mind, evaporate their future, eliminate their potential or destroy society like pornography.

“It is worse than Hitler, worse than AIDS, cancer or any other epidemic.

“It is more catastrophic than nuclear holocaust, and it must be stopped.”

Mr Vaswani told the Hindustan Times that the new ban is “definitely a step towards protecting the country’s women and children”.

“To say Indian women watch porn is an insult to their dignity,” he added to the newspaper.

India has the second largest number of internet users in the world after China.

Jyoti Singh died after being attacked by a group of men on a bus she got on with a male friend after they had been to the cinema one evening.

They were tricked by the men to enter the bus, which they taken out for a joyride, and beat the victim’s friend, while taking it in turns to rape her.

Jyoti Singh subsequently died from her horrific injuries.

In a controversial BBC documentary detailing the rape, India’s Daughter, broadcast earlier this year, one of the four men sentenced to death for the rape and murder, shared his belief that “a girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy”.
