A man wearing a hockey mask and carrying a sword has been arrested in north London. A man accused of carrying a sword in public while wearing a hockey mask is due to appear before magistrates.
Police were called to reports of a group of young people armed with bricks and sticks in Hornsey Road, Islington, at about midnight. Abdullahi Hassan Abdullahi was arrested by police in Islington, north London, shortly after midnight.
The 21-year-old man was stopped by officers who found the sword in a bag he was carrying. The 21-year-old, of Elthorne Road, Archway, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and remains in custody. Mr Abdullahi, who is unemployed, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Highbury Corner magistrates on Saturday.
The Met Police said that when officers arrived they saw a man wearing a hockey-style mask, carrying a large bag.
A Met spokesman said: "On seeing the officers the person ran off. Officers gave chase and a male was subsequently detained.
