For the record
http://www.theguardian.com/news/2015/aug/09/for-the-record Version 0 of 1. A panel headlined “Meningitis: the facts”, which accompanied an article on a new vaccine for students, repeated information supplied by the Department of Health, and said: “The new vaccination being offered will protect against Men W, A, C and Y: the four meningococcal strains that can cause meningitis and septicaemia.” This overlooks Meningitis B, which for decades has been the most common cause of bacterial meningitis in the UK and Ireland. From next month, however, UK babies born on or after 1 July 2015 will be offered a vaccine against Men B as part of a national immunisation programme (“Students offered new meningitis vaccine after surge in cases of aggressive strain of disease”, News, last week, page 3). A photograph purporting to show the mushroom cloud over Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, reproduced in New Review last week, was miscaptioned by a picture agency. It actually showed the cloud over Nagasaki three days later. (“After the cold war, the nuclear threat has faded from our minds”, page 12). St Mary’s Old Church, Stoke Newington, London, a popular arts venue, is far from “dry” (New Review, 26 July). A bar operates to raise funds for the church.
