A potentially "terrible" DIY accident was prevented thanks to loose change in a man's pocket.

The 60-year-old, from Uttoxeter, was using a circular saw to cut wood when it kicked back and cut his left leg on Friday afternoon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the coins prevented the six-inch gash from being deeper than one-inch, and seriously damaging his muscle.

The man was taken to hospital to have the wound treated.
