http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-33840497 Version 0 of 1. The Cowes chain ferry is back in operation after closing when a worker was seriously injured. The floating bridge across the River Medina between Cowes and East Cowes restarted at 06:30 BST. It closed at 19:00 on Friday when a man was pinned between a car and a metal gate. He was taken to hospital with suspected head and leg injuries. A foot passenger service ran on Saturday. Isle of Wight Council said the bridge gates had been repaired. It had also been in discussion with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Marine Accident Investigation Unit. A spokesman said: "We apologise for any inconvenience while we work hard to bring the floating bridge back into service. "The public's safety is obviously our utmost concern, while we also understand the necessity of this service, especially during Cowes Week. "Our thoughts remain with the individual who was injured in the incident, and his family, at this time." The sailing regatta Cowes Week started on Saturday and continues until 15 August. |
