Schoolteacher charged with indecently recording students using a phone
Version 0 of 1. A schoolteacher in Western Australia has been accused of indecently recording his students after fellow teachers found a mobile phone allegedly containing recordings of the children at the school on Friday. According to a statement by Western Australia police, staff at a high school in the southern part of the state found the mobile phone in a classroom. They called police because they were “concerned about the content found on the mobile phone”, which allegedly included recordings of students. On Saturday, police searched the 30-year-old teacher’s house and seized several other mobile phones, computers, storage devices and a miniature camera. The man has since been charged with two counts of indecently recording a child under 13 years of age, and two counts of indecently recording a child over 13 but under 16 years of age. He has also been charged with possessing child exploitation material and using, installing and maintaining an optical surveillance device. He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear at a magistrates court on Monday. “It will be alleged the offences committed by the accused were committed at the schools he was employed at,” WA Police spokesman Sam Dinnison said. The Department of Education is understood to have notified parents at the school of the arrest on Monday. |
