ITV has axed the chatshow fronted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, despite their high profile from the BBC’s Great British Bake Off.

The comedy duo’s daytime show, Mel & Sue, has been axed after just one series after failing to attract a significant following.

The show, which launched in January, drew an average audience of about 750,000 viewers.

ITV has axed the show but is understood to be keen to look at other potential TV projects with the pair.

“Mel and Sue are great talents and we hope to work with them on other projects in the future,” said a spokeswoman for ITV.

The failure of the chatshow is in stark contrast to the pair’s success on the BBC’s Great British Bake Off, which returned last week for a sixth series with a record 9.3m viewers for a series opener.

Mel & Sue was produced by Perkins’ independent production company Square Peg TV and Princess Productions, which was responsible for the pair’s Channel 4 formats Light Lunch and Late Lunch in the late 1990s.
