(35 minutes later)
Police officers have evacuated hundreds of passengers from King's Cross station in central London, according to reports. Kings Cross was evacuated by armed police officers on Thursday afternoon, after a man was detained at the busy central London station on suspicion of drug offences.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "BTP officers are on scene at King’s Cross station dealing with an ongoing incident. A man has been detained by officers on the platforms and enquiries are ongoing. Armed British Transport Police (BTP) descended on mainline platforms shortly after 3pm, to meet a train coming into the station, the force said in a statement.
"Some platforms have closed while this takes place. Members of the public are asked to follow instructions from police officers and rail staff." Officers arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug over an hour later, at 4:15pm.
National Rail wrote on Twitter that "a problem" was being probed, causing trains travelling to and from the station to be delayed by up to 15 minutes. As rush hour was set to start in the capital, closed platforms were evacuated as officers made inquiries. Platforms have since re-opened, BTP tweeted, thanking passengers for their co-operation.
