Louisiana state police said a police officer and two other people have been shot in south-western Louisiana. Louisiana police say they are in a standoff with an accused shooter after a police officer was shot in south-western Louisiana.
State police superintendent Mike Edmonson said troopers were on the way to the scene in Sunset, about 70 miles west of Baton Rouge, after getting a call around 4.45pm on Wednesday. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told reporters in Sunset the accused attacker had barricaded himself inside a gas station and that Swat officers were in the process of coaxing him out.
“Were gonna shoot another burst of teargas inside, we’re not gonna stand here all night and beg him to come out,” Guidroz said.
Two people were stabbed about three blocks from the gas station, Guidroz said, and the officer was shot when responding to that scene. The accused attacker then drove into the gas station, and barricaded himself inside an inner office.
Three people inside the store, a clerk, a cook and a customer, made it out safely, Guidroz said.
State police superintendent Mike Edmonson said the officer was “responsive” but he had no details on the extent of the officer’s injuries – or those of the other two people who were shot.
