An elderly woman is believed to have been shot dead at her care home in Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex police said. | |
Police have launched a murder enquiry following the death and a man has been arrested. | |
Officers were called the Delamer House care home in Naze Park road just after 9:00 am on Monday following reports that a woman had been seriously injured. | |
The woman, believed to have been in her 80s, was found dead by officers and ambulance crews on arrival. Police said the woman is believed to have been shot. | |
A man was arrested on the scene on suspicion of murder and a scene guard has been put in place while forensic searches are undertaken at the premises. | |
Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are leading the murder enquiry. | |
DCI Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation and our enquiries are ongoing.” | |
