Police have charged a 25-year-old man with attempted murder after an officer was shot in Wolverhampton. A man is due to appear in court charged with attempted murder after a police officer was shot in Wolverhampton.

The shooting happened after he and a colleague chased a man, seen acting suspiciously, in nearby Oaklands Road. It happened when the experienced West Midlands Police officer chased a man seen acting suspiciously nearby.
Pc King, 33, has seven years' service with West Midlands Police. The arrested man is also from Wolverhampton. Pc King, 33, is recovering following surgery on his left shoulder. A 25-year-old from Wolverhampton is due before magistrates in the city later.
Pc King has undergone surgery on his left shoulder, but is said to be conscious.
'Incredibly brave'
House-to-house enquiries have been carried out in Oaklands Road and Penn Road, and a large area was sealed off.
A West Midlands police spokesman said a man was arrested on Sunday afternoon and was being questioned.
Earlier, Assistant Chief Constable Anil Patani said the shooting, which happened at 2230 GMT, was being treated as attempted murder.
He told a press conference: "This demonstrates how incredibly brave our officers are.
"Sometimes we take for granted the extent we ask of police officers to keep the public safe."
The Bishop of Lichfield also spoke of his prayers for Pc King.
The Rt Revd Jonathan Gledhill said he hoped that shock at the shooting would persuade people who keep weapons to give them up.
