A man is due to appear in court charged with attempted murder after a police officer was shot in Wolverhampton. A 25-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a policeman was shot in Wolverhampton.

It happened when the experienced West Midlands Police officer chased a man seen acting suspiciously nearby. Marcus Bailey, of Merry Hill, West Midlands, was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and to resist arrest.
Pc King, 33, is recovering following surgery on his left shoulder. A 25-year-old from Wolverhampton is due before magistrates in the city later. Mr Bailey was remanded into custody at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court to appear at the city's crown court later.
