A man killed on the M3 had wandered on to the carriageway after his car came off the road, the ambulance service said. A man was killed on the M3 in Hampshire after getting out of his car following a crash, police have said.
Police said three vehicles were involved in the crash that closed the southbound lanes between Winchester services and junction 8 for Andover. The driver had collided with another vehicle and got out of his car, but was then struck and killed by a third vehicle.
The accident happened at about 06:40 BST and the motorway has now been reopened. The crash, which closed a section of the motorway, initially involved a Mitsubishi ASX 4 and a Skoda Superb.
The man was declared dead at the scene and a woman was treated for shock. The Mitsubishi driver, a 37-year-old man from Southampton, was killed after being hit by a Citroen Berlingo.
Delays of one hour have been reported and diversions are in place via the A3030 and the A34. The accident happened between Winchester services and junction 8 for Andover on the M3 southbound at about 06:40 BST.
Hampshire Constabulary had advised motorists to avoid the area. The drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.
