(about 1 hour later) | |
Two young sisters have drowned in a backyard swimming pool south of Brisbane.
The girls, aged three and four, died in the Logan suburb of Kingston about 1.30pm on Tuesday.
Inspector Glenn Allen said the pair could not be saved by their parents after their five-year-old sister raised the alarm.
“The two young girls were taken out of the pool by their parents and given CPR,” he told the Nine Network. “The ambulance officers responded but were unable to revive them.
“Obviously it’s an absolute tragedy that the two of them are now gone.”
Queensland police are investigating but say the deaths aren’t being treated as suspicious.
The backyard pool is fully fenced but police and Logan city council officers are on scene inspecting the fencing to see if it meets with regulations. |
