The girls, aged three and four, died in the Logan suburb of Kingston about 1.30pm on Tuesday. The sisters, four-year-old Taya Young and three-year-old Patricia Young, were playing in the backyard of their home in the Logan suburb of Kingston when they got into the pool area.
Their girls’ mother Renise Young told the Courier-Mail in Brisbane how she jumped into the pool after her five-year-old son Aige raised the alarm on Tuesday afternoon.
“I was screaming and grabbing them and making sure their head was above the water and just yelling because there was nothing I could do,” Ms Young told The Courier-Mail.
“All a mother could do when they see their baby like that is just scream at the top of their lungs,” she said.
Young and her husband Troy tried to revive them before paramedics arrive.
Police are investigating whether the girls used a nearby outdoor chair or a trampoline to access the pool area.
Inspector Glenn Allen said the pair could not be saved by their parents after their five-year-old sister raised the alarm.Inspector Glenn Allen said the pair could not be saved by their parents after their five-year-old sister raised the alarm.

“Obviously it’s an absolute tragedy that the two of them are now gone.” Police are investigating whether the girls used a nearby outdoor chair or a trampoline to access the pool area.
Queensland police are investigating but say the deaths aren’t being treated as suspicious. “It doesn’t appear to be suspicious, however we have to do our investigations. We have our child protection officers here at the moment,” Insp Allen said.
The backyard pool is fully fenced but police and Logan city council officers are on scene inspecting the fencing to see if it meets with regulations. Logan City Council officers are also investigating, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
The girls’ grandfather Peter Brown told reporters their father and mother have been left devastated.
“He’s cut up something terrible, and she’s just as bad, cause she had to dive in the pool to get them out,” Brown said.
“They’d just finished cleaning the pool to go swimming, it had regulation fencing all around it, so I don’t know how they got in.”
