Man, children found dead in car Children and man's death in car
(about 13 hours later)
The bodies of a man and two children have been found inside a Land Rover in a country lane in the Conwy valley. Investigations are continuing into the deaths of two children and a man, believed to be their father, who were found in a car in an isolated valley.
North Wales Police said the deaths of the man, boy and girl near Llanrwst are being treated as suspicious. The boy and the girl, both under the age of 10, along with the man, in his 50s, were found inside a Landrover in a country lane in the Conwy Valley.
They are believed to be from the Cheshire area and family have been informed, said a force spokeswoman. Police are treating the deaths of the children as suspicious but are not looking for anyone else in connection.
Police were alerted at about 1500 BST by a passer-by, who found the vehicle parked off a hillside road leading from the A470 between Tal-y-cafn and Maenan. The children and the man are thought to be from Runcorn in Cheshire.
The spokeswoman said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths. Police were alerted at about 1500 BST on Sunday by a passer-by, who found the car off a hillside road near Llanrwst on Father's Day.
Post-mortem examinations will be held on Monday morning at Glan Clwyd Hospital by pathologist Dr Brian Rogers. It was parked on a road leading from the A470 between Tal-y-cafn and Maenan.
The road is still sealed off by police, who are carrying out forensic examinations. The area where the car was found is in an isolated beauty spot
They have also been conducting house-to-house inquiries. A police spokeswoman said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and family have been informed.
Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones from North Wales Police said the children and the man found dead in the car had been reported missing on Saturday night and police in Cheshire had been looking for them.
"Although we haven't formally confirmed the identity of the people, they are strongly believed to be a father and two children," he said.
"Cheshire Police had been trying to locate them since Saturday evening."
He said inquiries would be undertaken to establish a timeline of events in north Wales and Cheshire.
Post-mortem examinations will be held on Monday morning at Glan Clwyd Hospital in order to establish a cause of death.
There had been initial concerns about a substance found around the vehicle and Army experts had been called in, but those fears were unfounded said Det Ch Insp Jones.
A section of the road remains cordoned off a while police examinations continue, the force said.
They have also conducted house-to-house inquiries.
The Land Rover has been taken from the scene to St Asaph and will be subject to further forensic examinations by experts.
