London shares bob around record highs London shares rise to record high

A strong performance from some mining companies helps London's FTSE 100 index to pass beyond Wednesday's record closing high of 7,106.08 points. A strong performance from precious metals companies helped London's FTSE 100 index to its second closing high this week.
A weaker performance on Wall Street overnight had earlier helped to hold back investors. At noon the FTSE was up a smidge - 1.4 points at 7,107.48. The FTSE was up 14.18 points at 7,120.26.
Randgold and Fresnillo were again both in the top five gainers, adding between 2-3% to Wednesday's 5% rise. A weaker performance on Wall Street overnight had earlier held back investors.
