Swedish police question 2, seek third in connection with Stockholm truck attack Terrorism suspect among 2 arrested in Stockholm truck attack – prosecutors
(about 9 hours later)
Swedish police have released images of a man wanted in connection with Friday’s suspected terrorist attack in Stockholm in which a truck deliberately ran over pedestrians. Two people are currently being interviewed in relation to the attack. Swedish police have arrested two men in connection with Friday’s truck attack in Stockholm, which killed four people and injured 15. One of the arrested has been referred to as a terrorist suspect with high degree of confidence, according to prosecutors.
The image of the wanted man was displayed at a joint press conference held by police and the Swedish intelligence agency (SAPO).
"I have a picture of a person who has been seen at the location at this point in time. We want to get in contact with this person," Mats Lofving, head of Swedish police's National Operations Department (NOA), told reporters. Police said that the first person, arrested in the northern Stockholm suburb of Märsta around 8pm local time, was placed under prolonged arrest. He is suspected of committing a crime of terrorism through murder, Swedish prosecutor’s office said as cited by Swedish broadcaster SVT.
Karin Rosander, press spokesperson at the local prosecutor’s office, told Reuters that they have the strongest degree of suspicion, regarding the Swedish legal system.
Police said that any further information will only be provided on their official web page. No details on suspects are expected to be released until Saturday.
Earlier, the image of a wanted man was displayed at a joint press conference held by police and the Swedish intelligence agency (SAPO).
The grainy image, taken from what appears to be CCTV footage, shows a man wearing a green hooded jacket over a T-shirt and dark trousers. The police chief said the image was taken close to the time of the incident in the same vicinity. The grainy image, taken from what appears to be CCTV footage, shows a man wearing a green hooded jacket over a T-shirt and dark trousers. Police have also said they are already interviewing two people in relation to the attack. "I can confirm that we have taken in two people for questioning, but that does not necessarily mean that they are suspects," police spokesman Lars Bystrom said, as cited by Reuters. While no official information has been released over either identity or motives of the suspects, the first person arrested was reported by Aftonbladet to be a man of a foreign origin. The report did not specify for how long the man has been living in Sweden. Without disclosing his name, the outlet alleged that the suspect was an Islamic State supporter, citing the terrorist propaganda materials he allegedly posted on Facebook.
"We want to talk to everybody who knows anything about this and sometimes it's better to talk at the police station than at the place of the event,” he added. The second suspect was arrested in the suburb of Hjulsta later in the evening.
Speaking alongside Lofving, the Acting Head of SAPO, Anders Thornberg, said the two organizations were working side by side. "We will turn over every stone to find out who is behind this,” he said at the conference. Police sources, cited by SVT, indicate that there is a possible link between the suspects.
The attack took place in Drottninggatan, one of the city's main pedestrian areas. The truck ploughed through crowds of people before crashing into a department store. Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said the attack appeared to be an act of terrorism.

Swedish police confirmed on Twitter that four people have been killed in the attack with 15 injured. Earlier reports suggested that the hunt for a truck driver was still under way and police did not exclude that there can be more suspects in the attack, Jan Evesson, chief of Stockholm police said, as cited by the SVT.
Ahead of the arrests, police reported it had summoned two people for questioning, at the time stressing that they were not made suspects in the case. It is not clear if these are the same individuals that have been arrested.
