Parish priest Martin Saunders of St. Dunstan's Church, Moston said he was "very upset and shocked" by the stabbing.
"It is a very good area but occasionally things like this do happen in this kind of area... it's a very mixed economy."
Father Saunders, who said he grew up in Moston, said 30 years ago the area was "quite a tough" because of gang violence but said it was "very different" now and it had a "good community environment".
