Law enforcement still do not know the gunman’s motive. Johnston said the suspect had “no real connection” to any of the victims, adding that they appear to be “random selections.”

Johnston said the suspect took a vehicle and went on a “shooting rampage throughout the community.”
The suspect was killed after engaging two officers. Johnston said that no officers were injured in the incident.
Authorities have received reports that there was “a history of a neighborhood dispute involving who we believe the shooter is” but Johnston said he could not confirm. The sheriff's office is engaging in an officer-involved shooting protocol headed up by the Red Bluff Police Department and assisted by the District Attorney's Office, the California Highway Patrol, and the FBI.
