Vivienne Scott, who works at the nearby Carnoustie Golf Club, said: "It's pretty horrific. People come from all over the world to play on the Carnoustie golf course.
"That [the Buddon course] was one of the courses that the locals play rather than people coming to play the championship.
"Carnoustie's not like that. It's not a violent place at all. We don't get anything like that.
"We never expect it to happen in Carnoustie, never."
Police appeal
Rhonda Gall, who works in Simpsons Golf Shop, said: "I was coming in to work this morning and the Burnside was closed off and there were police standing there.
"Then I heard through the grapevine that there was a body.
"It was a bit spooky. It gives you a shiver up your spine, especially happening in Carnoustie."
