The first councils have started to declare their results, we are expecting results from 108 English councils overnight. In the early results both Labour and the Conservatives suffered council losses. The Lib Dems are gaining councillors across the country but are yet to win control over any new councils.
All of the councils in Northern Ireland and the remaining 140 English councils will start counting on Friday morning with those results expected to be announced from midday.
