Coronavirus: What are social distancing and self-isolation rules? Coronavirus: What are social distancing and self-isolation rules?
(about 11 hours later)
Individuals in England are now allowed to meet one other person from outside their household if they stay outdoors. They can also take part in more outdoor activities and exercise as much as they want. Lockdown restrictions are gradually being eased in parts of the UK. But what does this mean and can you finally meet up with more family and friends?
However, people still need to follow social distancing guidance by keeping more than 2m (6ft) apart from anyone they don't live with.
It's part of the government's ''careful steps'' to ease lockdown measures for England.
Who am I allowed to meet?Who am I allowed to meet?
The guidelines in England allow one person to meet someone from outside their household outdoors, as long as they stay more than 2m apart. From Monday in England, you will be able to meet up to six people from different households outside - either in parks or now also in private gardens - as long as you remain 2m (6ft) apart. For example, you could have a barbecue in someone's back garden.
It means, for example, they could have a picnic in the park, or play a non-contact sport, provided they observe social distancing. From Friday in Scotland, two separate households - up to a maximum of eight people - can meet outdoors, in a park or private garden. Social distancing rules still apply.
This only applies to two individuals from separate households, so you would still not be allowed to meet both your parents together. It means, for example, you could have a picnic in the park, or play a non-contact sport like tennis, golf or basketball, observing social distancing.
It also means you cannot have a barbecue in your garden for friends, even if you all stayed 2m apart. And you are still not able to invite people inside your home. While people from different households are still not allowed to meet indoors, you can go through a house to access a garden. But you can't extend your visit to stay overnight.
However, anyone who is shielding and has been asked to stay at home should continue to do so. However, if you needed to do something like use the toilet during a visit, you would need to wipe down and clean everything afterwards, to lower the risk of transmission of the virus.
Can I exercise with other people? Meanwhile, anyone who is shielding and has been asked to stay at home should continue to do so.
People in England can now take unlimited exercise and play certain non-contact sports like tennis, golf or basketball with one person from outside their household, as long as social distancing is maintained. In Wales, the BBC understands that people from two different households will be able to meet each other outdoors from Monday.
However, they are still unable to use areas like playgrounds and outdoor gyms where there is a higher risk of close contact and touching surfaces. Groups of four to six people who do not share a household can meet outdoors in Northern Ireland, although outdoor weddings with 10 people present may be allowed from 8 June.
People in England are free to drive as far as they like to outdoor open spaces. But they should not travel to Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, or stay anywhere else overnight, including at a second home.
What could the next steps be?What could the next steps be?
