Olivia's headteacher at Gwersyllt CP School in Wrexham said staff had been left "stunned and devastated" by her death.
Neil Gledhill said: "Olivia was a very happy and smiley little girl and her loss will be felt not only in our school but throughout the whole of the Gwersyllt community.
"Our sincere sympathies go out to her parents, Julie and Darren, and the rest of the family during this traumatic time."
Preparations are under way for a special assembly to tell the school pupils what has happened.
