A 10-year-old boy is critically ill in hospital after he was pulled from the River Bann in Hilltown, County Down.
Daniel Andre had been swimming with friends in the river when he got into difficulty and disappeared underwater.
Two firemen located the boy and pulled him to safety. Medics worked to resuscitate him and he was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.
It is understood the boy may have been underwater for about 20 minutes. The accident was reported at 1650 BST.
He was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast, where he is described as critical but stable.
The boy's older sister, Lauren Andre, said her family was grateful for the support they had received from local people and the emergency services.
