(30 minutes later)
The body of a child has been recovered from a canal in Greater Manchester by underwater search teams. The body of an 11-year-old boy has been recovered from a canal in Greater Manchester by underwater search teams.
Emergency services were called to Barton Embankment near the Trafford Centre on Tuesday evening after reports that several children had fallen in. The boy, from Salford, was one of several children reported to have fallen into the water on land at Barton Embankment near the Trafford Centre.
Three children found at the scene told rescuers that an 11-year-old boy was still in the water. Police and firefighters, along with a specialist rescue team, searched the pond and the body was recovered more than two hours later at about 2030 BST.
Police believe the body recovered could be the missing boy. No further details have been released. The boy's family has been told and enquiries are continuing.
