A Highways Agency spokesman said: "The fire brigade has imposed an exclusion zone around the hotel and we're very much in their hands." 'Drivers very frustrated'
No-one was injured during the leak, the hotel was evacuated and a 200m (656ft) exclusion zone put up around the affected area, Surrey Police said.
Reporter Ben Kerrigan, who is near to the hotel in Egham, told BBC Surrey: "I've just spoken to one of the policemen here and they say drivers really are very, very frustrated with the situation.
"As you can imagine it's causing chaos and not just for the M25. As well as the delays on the motorway itself it's causing absolute chaos around the Egham area Englefield Green all around Runnymede.
"I've just spoken to a driver who shouted through their window a few moments ago and they said they'd been going round and round for the past two hours.
"All around this area is absolutely awful in terms of the traffic."
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Surrey Police is also advising motorists to seek alternative routes due to traffic congestion in the area and regular updates will be issued regarding the situation on the roads in the Egham area."
