It comes after Met Office statistics showed that Dumfries and Galloway had just had the wettest August ever recorded. As a result of the heavy rain severe flood warnings have been issued for the Eye Water in the Borders and the River Tyne at Haddington.
Flood watches have also been put in place across much of Scotland. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency said properties in both areas were at risk and driving conditions were likely to be hazardous.
