A security alert at a school in north Belfast has been declared a hoax.
A controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious object found in the grounds of Mercy Primary School on Crumlin Road.
It's understood a milkman making a delivery spotted the object and raised the alarm.
Parents were told not to send their children to school on Wednesday.
Sinn Fein MLA for North Belfast, Gerry Kelly, has condemned those who left the device.
"Those responsible are essentially attacking our children's education, their future, and their sense of safety," he said.
"They need to realise this and stop any such attacks immediately."
Alliance Party North Belfast representative Gerry Lynch said it was a "worrying development".
"To leave a suspicious device at a school beggar's belief," he said.
"This is just the latest in a series of incidents involving schools in North Belfast in recent months.
"I have no idea why anybody would want to attack any school but I would urge these people to stop disrupting the education of children." |
