Stephen McGowan, district procurator fiscal for Aberdeen, said afterwards: "This was an horrific and disturbing attack on a defenceless man.
"Jaroslaw Janeczek was dragged from his car and subjected to a relentless and brutal assault.
"He was repeatedly kicked and punched, and had the car door slammed on his head, and he was assaulted with a wooden mop handle which resulted in severe and extensive injuries."
He added: "Had it not been for the skill of the surgeons during an eight-hour operation, Mr Janeczek would have died from the terrible injuries he sustained.
"He is still undergoing medical treatment, and I am sure he will never forget his ordeal. However we hope he will take some comfort from the fact that his attackers have been convicted."
