All four canoeists who were trapped in a fast-flowing river in Conwy in north Wales have been rescued, says North Wales Fire and Rescue Service | |
Two of the casualties have been flown by RAF rescue helicopter to hospital in Bangor while the other two are in the care of the Welsh Ambulance Services. | |
The emergency on the river near the Conwy Falls restaurant in Betws-y-Coed was first reported at 1703 GMT. | |
Three engines, two water incident units and a rope rescue unit were called. | |
A spokesperson for the fire service said they were told four canoeists were trapped in the river near the B4406 in Penmachno. | |
The spokesperson said crews from Llanrwst, Betws-y-Coed, Bangor and Colwyn Bay attended. | |
They are working with a number of agencies including the Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team, Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Police and 22 squadron from the RAF base on Anglesey. | |
