Caroline Johnson suffered serious internal injuries
Jurors found him guilty of the more serious offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, after hearing he deliberately ran Ms Johnson over, dragging her 65ft (about 20m) down the road.
Ms Johnson is still in a wheelchair as a result of her injuries, which included a fractured pelvis, an open fracture to the right femur, fractures to both ankles and fractured ribs.
She had been preparing to take her son to school just before 0800 GMT when Richardson and Napper, who had spent the previous night in a drugs den, leapt into the car.
At Reading Crown Court on Friday, Richardson was told he was being jailed for public protection.
He was also sentenced to 20 months for aggravated vehicle taking and 18 months for dangerous driving, to run concurrently.
