The road is shut northbound and southbound between junctions 24 and 26 after the accident which happened on the northbound carriageway. The accident happened on the northbound carriageway, and the southbound carriageway was also shut for a time to allow an air ambulance to land.
The southbound carriageway has been closed in order to allow an air ambulance to land. East Midlands Ambulance Service said two people were airlifted to hospital.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "At this point all we can say is there has been a serious road traffic collision and officers are currently on the scene."
