M1 reopens after eight-car crash
(about 1 hour later) | |
An eight-car pile-up closed a section of the M1 for more than three hours and left one person seriously injured, Nottinghamshire Police have said.
An air ambulance took the person to hospital following the collision near Long Eaton at about midday.
The crash between junctions 24a and 25 on the northbound carriageway also closed the southbound carriageway to allow the air ambulance to land.
The motorway has since reopened but traffic was slow to clear, police said.
A police spokesman said: "There was a seven-or-eight-car pile-up on the M1 northbound between junction 24a and 25, as a result of which a number of people were injured and the motorway was closed.
"It was decided by the emergency services at the scene to use the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire air ambulance and one of the passengers from one of the vehicles was airlifted to Queen's Medical Centre.
"The passenger from the vehicle has serious injuries although they are not described as life-ending." |
