Murder inquiry after man's death Murder inquiry after man's death
(about 1 hour later)
The death of a 24-year-old man in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of the morning is being treated as murder, police have said. A murder inquiry has been launched after the death of a man who was found lying seriously injured on a street in Glasgow city centre.
Officers are studying CCTV images of the area around Commerce Street, just south of a bridge over the River Clyde, where the incident happened. Police were called to Commerce Street, on the south side of King George V Bridge, following the discovery of the man at about 0550 GMT.
A post-mortem examination was carried out earlier but detectives have so far declined to say how the man died. The 24-year-old man was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal. Police are studying CCTV footage and appealed for anyone who was in the area at about 0100 GMT to contact them.
Following a post-mortem examination, the death is being treated as murder, Strathclyde Police said.
Det Insp Pat Campbell, of Helen Street police office, said: "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death of this young man.
"Officers are currently carrying out extensive inquiries in the area and studying CCTV footage in an effort to glean further information.
"I would appeal to anyone, who was in the area of Commerce Street or Clyde Street between 11.45pm on Saturday night and 1am this morning, who may have witnessed an incident take place, or anyone with any information relative to the investigation to come forward as a matter of urgency."
