Man and woman killed in car crash Mother and father killed in crash
(about 23 hours later)
A man and a woman have been killed and another man is in hospital following two separate road crashes in the north east of Scotland. A couple were killed and their child seriously injured in a crash on an Aberdeenshire road in icy conditions.
The couple, who have not been named, died when the Vauxhall Frontera they were travelling in left the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road. The man and woman, thought to be in their 30s, died in the collision, which happened on the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road at 0115 GMT on Sunday.
The crash happened between Lonmay and Cortes at about 0115 GMT on Sunday. Their child, a two-year-old girl, was taken to hospital in Aberdeen, where her condition was serious but stable.
Grampian Police said a man was in a serious condition in hospital after another crash south of Fraserburgh. A short time after the road reopened a car and a lorry collided. The driver of the car was in a serious condition.
The collision, which involved two vehicles near to Philorth Woods on the A90, has resulted in the road being closed. In the first crash, the Vauxhall Frontera left the road and overturned near Cortes.
'Poor conditions'
The couple, who have not yet been named, were believed to be from the Fraserburgh area.
The road was closed for about seven hours while accident investigators examined the scene.
At about 0940 GMT, there was a two-vehicle crash on the A90 at Philorth.
A 37-year-old man from the Fraserburgh area was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where his condition was described as serious. The lorry driver did not need hospital treatment.
Insp Ewan Innes from Grampian Police said: "Weather conditions have been very poor in the Buchan area over the weekend with many routes affected by snow.
"Clearly road and weather conditions at the time of both collisions will be taken into account during our inquiries."
