It is believed the injured man was hit on the head with a bin. A man in his 30s has been arrested. It is believed the injured man, thought to be in his late 20s, was hit on the head with a bin. A 25-year-old man from the Preston area has been arrested.
The arrested man was from within the Blackburn supporters group in that area, police said. He is helping police with their inquiries, the Staffordshire force said.
The injured man was initially treated at the scene for a head injury and cardiac arrest by staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance, police said.
He was then taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for urgent medical treatment.
Officers and club stewards were alerted to the incident in the concourse area of the South stand at the stadium.
