West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to a medical emergency at the Britannia Stadium just before 1620 GMT. | |
A spokesman said staff from the ambulance service and St John Ambulance were already on site providing medical cover for the game. | |
A statement on the Blackburn Rovers website said a man was in a critical condition following the game. | |
It said: "The man was among a 1,300-strong Rovers following in the South Stand, occupied by visiting supporters." | |
A statement on Stoke City's website said police were investigating the incident "which has left a Blackburn Rovers supporter in a critical condition in hospital". | |
It said Ch Insp Roberts confirmed the man suffered a "head trauma" in the incident which was confined to the visitors' section of the SEAT stand. | |
The statement said: "No further comment at this time will be made by the club as this is a matter being handled by the police." |
