Tarmac which has not set properly overnight has caused delays on the M4 and M5 motorways near Bristol. Newly laid Tarmac which has not set properly has caused rush-hour misery on the M4 and M5 motorways near Bristol.
The M5 is closed between junction 15 (Almondsbury Interchange) and junction 16 (Aztec West). Traffic queues of up to six miles built up in all directions approaching the Almondsbury Interchange.
Traffic queues have been building up and the Highways Agency advises drivers to use the M49 southbound in the roadworks area. The Highways Agency advises drivers on the M5 south to take the M4 west to junction the M49, then back onto the M5 at junction 18.
The carriageway will remain closed during the rush hour with delays and disruption expected during the morning. Some lanes have reopened but traffic remains heavily congested and delays are expected for some time.
Ken Dunn, Operations Manager for the Highways Agency, said: "Overnight repairs to the motorway overran.
"Workers were digging a trench across the motorway and there were delays in refilling it due to technical difficulties."
