The collision happened around 0845 GMT near to a petrol station. The bus, which was the 288 Arriva service between Altrincham and Knutsford, did not leave the road and the investigation will look at how it came to hit the women.

Derek Bowes, spokesman for Arriva North West and Wales, extended his deepest sympathies to the family.
"We are working closely with the police and relevant authorities to try and establish the cause of this tragic incident," he said.
Although the bus was not a dedicated school service it contained a number of pupils.
Sgt Ian Holley, of Cheshire Constabulary, said: "Everybody is quite distressed to witness something of this nature.
"We have linked up with Knutsford High School and they are putting their critical incident management plan into action."
Popular residents
The bus passengers were taken by other means to school after the collision, which happened about 0845 GMT, near a petrol station.
Officers finished looking at the bus at about 1200 GMT and it has been towed away for further examinations, though the road remains closed.
Police have not named the victims of the crash but they are well known locally, where residents have described their shock at the accident.
One man told the BBC: "It's somebody you see every day walking past, acknowledging you and saying, 'Hello. How are you? How's your brother, how's your mum and dad?'
"There's not enough people like that these days is there?"
